Premiere of FLYBY for two percussionists at Baltic Music Days 2022 Kaunas
FLYBY for two percussionists is dedicated to duo Juris Āzers and Guntars Freibergs and will be premiered at the Kaunas State Philharmonic.
A “flyby”, (this word has several meanings) is a spaceflight operation in which a spacecraft
passes in proximity to another space object, usually to explore it. The term has also been used in regard to asteroid flybys of Earth. The gravitation force of a larger object – a planet or an asteroid – changes the trajectory of the flying object and impel it towards another target. I was inspired by the idea how the force of gravity seemingly has affected sound and motion.
Programme “Conversions” features various compositions for percussion instruments. The duo performs together since 2016 focuses on original chamber music and newly written music for percussions challenging virtuosity, subtly curated programs and dexterous skill of ensemble. Works to be performed include Loreta Narvilaitė (LT), Andris Dzenītis (LV), Asja Ahmetdžanova (LV), Matīss Čudars (LV), Kristupas Bubnelis (LT), Anna Veismane (LV) and Raivis Misjuns (LV).
